Exploring the Ancient Wonders of Copan Ruinas in Honduras

The ancient city of Copan holds significant historical importance as one of the Maya civilization’s key cities in Central America. Today, “Copan Ruinas” stands as one of the finest Mayan archaeological sites in Honduras.

During a visit to Copan, you’ll encounter intricate carvings, temples, and ruins set amidst lush jungle surroundings. Colorful parrots are often seen flying around in the trees, adding to the site’s natural beauty. Copan was the home of the Maya civilization for over a thousand years and remained hidden until its rediscovery in the 16th century.

The archaeological site of Copan Ruinas is situated adjacent to a charming yet modern town with the same name. Visitors can embark on a day trip or an extended stay in this town, starting from San Pedro Sula in Honduras or various other locations in Central America, such as Guatemala or El Salvador.

Copan Ruinas is positioned in western Honduras, close to the Guatemalan border. The Mayan ruins share the same name and are located just outside the town.

The distance from San Pedro Sula to Copan Ruinas is approximately 180 kilometers (about 110 miles) in a straight line, but the journey by road takes at least 4 hours due to the winding and uneven road conditions.
